Medieval Romance

This era between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Reformation was very unique. Medieval or also known as the Middle Ages, was a time of development for many social and marriage customs followed my brides of today.

The Dress -
In medieval times, blue was considered the color of purity, not white. White was not used until the Victorian era [ for the modern bride who would like this style we do offer it in white]. Most dresses were made of velevt , silk or natural cotton depending on how wealthy your family was. Even the colors used show the statis of your family.Popular colors are Hunter Green, burgundy and deep purple (purple was reserved for royalty only Blue is an especially good color, as that was the color of purity at the time (this is where the "something blue" tradition for brides came from

The Veil -
The medieval bride should wear a garland-style headpiece instead of a tiara

Flowers -
herbs were mostly used in the wedding bouquets and decorations. Rosemary, thyme and basil are favorites. The herbs were thought to have properties to ward off evil spirits and induce good luck and fertility. Big hand-tied bouquets with rich colors complement the colors of the wedding party. Not until the late Medieval or renaissance period was flowers

Flowers to incorporates marigolds (orange flowers = fertility) and has trailing ivy (fidelity) can also include the following herbs: sage (wisdom), rosemary (remembrance), and dill (lust).

Finisihing Touches -
Heriloom jewelry handed down from the mother was usaly worn. With higher class fancy jewels and furs were added.

The Renaissance period in European cultural history is seen traditionally as the end of the Middle Ages, also known as the Dark Ages, and the beginning of modern times. The Renaissance began in Italy in the 14th century and flourished in Western Europe until about the 17th century.

The Dress -
Early Renaissance ladies wore loose, flowing skirts that became slightly more fitted in the bodice. These were made of simple fabrics like linen while the more wealther wore siks and brocades. Popular colors are Hunter Green, burgundy and deep purple[(purple was reserved for royalty only]

The Victorian era ranged from about 1837- 1901. The period is characterised as a long period of peace and economic, colonial, and industrial growth revolution.

The Dress -
Victorian wedding dress was elegant yet simple, often ivory instead of pure white. Often a wide gathered skirt was attached, with plenty of petticoats and a hoop worn underneath to present the full skirted look popular in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The neckline of the dress was often bordered with handmade lace, arranged in a ruffle to add some extra beauty to the look.

The Veil -
a lace veil with subtle sewn-in floral patterns was often donned with some sort of headdress, and the veil length was almost always below the wrists, even reaching down to the floor. Sometimes the veil flowed together with a long train attached to the dress.

Flowers -
The standard Victorian flower is the rose. But other flowers such as pansies, hyacinths, tulips, and stephanotis fitted in a nosegay or tussie mussie boquet style.

Finisihing Touches -
many brides also adorned their bodies and hair with orange blossoms. An ancient Chinese tradition signifying purity and fertility, the tradition was popular in the Victorian era until the 1950's. many brides wore pearls and heirloom jewelry to finish off her completed look.

The secret to a country theme wedding is in the details. With acountry wedding you can carry that warm, down-home feel into every aspect of your planning - from beautiful western wedding gowns to country style cakes and cake toppers to your theme specific supplies and accessories.

The Dress -
The dress typically falls just above the ankle, rather than flowing to the ground. Many of the western style dresses also come with handkerchief hemlines. They also s have an outer layer of lace or a lot of lace trim.

The Veil -
The apropriate country veil is design with a white cowboy hat and the veil fows

Flowers -
Wild Flower are the perfect touch, simply tied with ribbons.

Finisihing Touches -
Finish off with white cowgirl boots and a delicate heart necklace.

Set in the era of the Big bands and Swing. Rita Hayworth and Lana Turner lit up the silver screen and made our hearts skip a beat in movies likeSophisticated elegance and nostalgia sets the theme for this wedding.

The Dress -
A long slender satin or silk dress or a slim fitting suit .

The Veil -
Keep it subtle, consider adding today's retro-tinged birdcage veil or even a period hat in place of the more typical elbow or cathedral-length veils.

Flowers -
Vintage wedding florals were often easily-sourced blooms like carnations, chrysanthemums and calla lilies. Bouquet styles ranged from dainty nosegays — old-fashioned blooms clipped from the garden — to the more luxurious, oversized cascade style.

Finisihing Touches -
Nylons with seams and open toe shoes.

As America weathered the social whirlwind of the 1960s, the traditional American wedding lagged somewhat behind. It would not be until the 1970s that the desire for diversity and uniqueness, which had been a hallmark of the 1960s, would enter the American wedding. During the 1970s, brides rejected the cookie-cutter standards of the 1950s wedding and began to opt for more unique ceremonies and wedding attire. More and more weddings began to move out of churches, and the idea of the “destination wedding” was born
